Free Letter Counter
A letter is any alphabetic character — the basic A–Z (and a–z). This counter excludes spaces, digits, punctuation, emoji, and other symbols, giving you the pure letter count of your text. Useful when a platform's limit applies to letters only, or when analyzing writing style.
How the Letter Counter Works
The counter scans every character in your text and keeps only those matching A–Z or a–z (plus accented letters in extended Latin sets). Numbers, spaces, punctuation, emoji, and symbols are excluded from the count.

1Letter count vs character count
Character count includes everything visible. Letter count includes only alphabetic characters. The difference reveals how many spaces, digits, and symbols pad your text.
2Use for vanity-license-plate or username planning
Some platforms cap usernames at a specific letter count (excluding digits). Use this counter to test.
3Accented letters do count
Letters like é, ñ, and ü are included in the count — they're still alphabetic characters.
4Combine with character counter for ratio
Letters ÷ total characters gives you a 'text density' ratio. Higher ratios indicate denser, more substantive writing.
