Free PDF Character Counter
Counting characters in a PDF normally means copying the text out, pasting it into Word, and using the built-in counter — error-prone and slow. This tool extracts the text directly from your PDF and counts characters in seconds. Your file never leaves your browser.

How the PDF Character Counter Works
When you upload a PDF, the tool extracts the text content of every page using a JavaScript PDF parser (pdf.js) that runs locally in your browser. The extracted text is then analyzed for character count, character count without spaces, word count, and page count.
Tips & Notes
1Works on text-based PDFs
PDFs with embedded text (most documents created from Word, Google Docs, LaTeX) work perfectly. Scanned-image PDFs need OCR first.
2Encrypted PDFs need to be unlocked
Password-protected PDFs cannot be analyzed. Unlock the file with the password first, then re-upload the unlocked version.
3Privacy: nothing is uploaded to a server
All processing happens in your browser. The PDF text is never sent to our servers or any third party.
4Large PDFs may take a few seconds
PDFs over 100 pages can take 5–10 seconds to process. Be patient — the browser is doing real work.
